NO sixes in an ODI match

Monday, September 7, 2009

One cannot imagine a One Day International match without any six these days. These are the days when experts suggesting One Day Internationals should be scrapped and encourage Twenty20.
Thus the fate of one dayers does not appear in a good shape.
In this critical situation England and Australia are playing 7-match ODI series, which is not able to generate any kind of interest. Making the matter worse, during the second match of the series at Lord’s on Sunday there was not a single six hit by any of the 22 batsmen!!!
There were 41 boundaries has been hit in the match and all were FOURs. This is the 9th occasion, and first in this century, where there was not a single sixes being hit when these two teams met in an ODI match. Last time it has happened in 1993 at the same Lord’s.
This is the 10th occasion since 2008 when NO SIXES have been hit in the entire match in the history of ODI.
So one can easily forced to think about the fate of 50 overs cricket.
