Jacques Kallis has good chance
Friday, September 18, 2009
The one-day format has come under much flak recently, but it will get a huge shot at redemption over the next couple of weeks with the Champions Trophy to be held in South Africa from 22nd September with the host will play against Sri Lanka at Centurion.
The tournament will feature the best of the best teams, barring a weakened West Indian outfit; have a shot at the title.
But here we are talking about Jacques Kallis. Who is going for top position in both batting and bowling so far the records are concern.
Kallis has scored 564 runs in 14 Champions Trophy matches. Thus he requires another 133 runs to overtake 695 runs of Chris Gayle. As the West Indian opener is not in the Caribbean team. Only Sourav Ganguly (665) and S Chanderpaul (567) have scored more runs then Kallis.
Ganguly already called it a day from International cricket and two West Indians are not in the team, for the reasons other then cricket. So Kallis is favorite to go on top in the batting table.
South African can also become top wicket taker in the Champions Trophy as he has taken 19 wickets so far and Sri Lankan Muralitharan is on top with 23 wickets. However there will be fight between Kallis and Murali.
