OPEN THE BOWLING AND BATTING
Friday, August 28, 2009
Sri Lanka’s Tilakratne Dilshan opened a bowling on 27 August against New Zealand during the 2nd test at Colombo. He also opened the innings in this test. This is a rare feat for Dilshan as only two other countrymen have done it earlier. Ravi Ratnayeke had opened the batting and bowling Vs India, at Chepauk, Chennai in 1982-83 and Bandula Warnapura done it in the first ever test for Sri Lanka (Vs England, at Colombo, 1981-82).
In fact Ratnayeke had done it for 4 times.
India’s former all rounder Manoj Prabhakar holds the world record for most time open the innings with ball and bat. Prabhakar played 39 tests and 22 times he did open the innings with a bat as well as with a ball.
India’s ML Jaisimha is at No.2 position with 13 times played dual roll. The openers like Sunil Gavaskar, Mudassar Nazar and even Sir Frank Worrell have done it some time in their respective test career.
Do you know who holds the world record in One Day International?
