Sir Don Bradman, Mother Teresa and Mukesh
It’s a classic combination of Cricket, Social service and Bolywood. Though all these three things have a different stratum, today I found some similarities in it, and that is the DATE - August 27.
27 August is the 101st birth anniversary of one of the all time great cricketer Sri Don Bradman, and it is the same date when Mukesh had stopped singing forever. We Indians always love to talk about Don Bradman and never miss to listen the legendary singer of Hindi cinema Mukesh.
The great cricketer Sir Don Bradman was probably the best batsman; he was a relentless accumulator of runs, often at a rapid rate. His Test record was such that he needed only four in his final innings against England at The Oval in 1948 to set the average of 100 but he was bowled by Eric Hollies for a duck.
Don Bradman made 19 hundreds against England between 1928 and 1948, including two triple centuries and six double centuries. He led the Ashes four consecutive series as a captain.
27 August (1976): the day Bolywood singer Mukesh died at Detroit (Michigan, USA). He was on a tour with Lata Mangeshkar and his son Nitin Mukesh. On the morning of August 27 he was in the bathroom and suddenly collapsed. Mukesh sung thousand of songs and is still alive in our minds through various mediums including radio and video.
The Date is also worth to remember in case of Mother Teresa also. Born on August 27, 1910 Mother Teresa devoted her life for the sick and poor and founded the Missionaries of Charity. She won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979.
A very interesting incident is churning in my mind. Don Bradman never played on Indian soil but in 1948 on the way to Australia he had to stay at Kolkata (then Calcutta) air port for 3-4 hours as he was waiting for the connecting flight. As the news spread in the city of Calcutta thousand of Bradman fans rushed to the air port to have a glimpse of the cricket legend. 1948 is also the year when Mother Teresa received permission from her superiors to leave the convent school and devote herself to work among the poorest of the poor in the slums of Kolkata.

You have found good combination. To add more, it is the same date on which falls death anniversary of legendary director Hrishikesh Mukherjee.
