RG Sharma : TWO consecutive hundred

With the 100 against Sri Lanka on 30.05.2010 in the ongoing tri series in Zimbabwe Rohit Sharma became only fifth Indian player to score two consecutive hundreds in One Day International. RG Sharma scored 114 against Zimbabwe at Bulawayo on 28.05.2010 and now scored 101 not out against Sri Lanka on Sunday.
The other Indians to score two consecutive centuries in ODI are … SR Tendulkar (22.04.1998 to 24.04.1998), RS Dravid (23.05.1999 to 26.05.1999), SC Ganguly (13.10.2000 to 15.10.2000), VVS Laxman (22.01.2004 to 24.01.2004) and Yuvraj Singh (14.11.2008 to 17.11.2008).
This was the 64th instance when a batsman scored two back to back hundreds in One Day International history. Pakistan’s Saeed Anwar has the distinction to score two hundred in two match for 4 times. While Sanath Jayasuriya, BC Lara and CH Gayle have done it in three separate occasions.

Fifty hundred in a losing cause

Rohit Sharma’s 114 in the game against Zimbabwe on 28.05.2010 was in a losing cause providing the 50th occasion of an Indian batsman’s hundred going in vain in one day internationals. Thus India became the only team in the one day history to have 50 hundreds in a losing cause.
Sachin Tendulkar, naturally, is on top with 12 hundred for losing cause while four hundred each scored by Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly when India lost a One Day match. There are 21 players involved in losing cause by scoring hundred. 3-each by Ravi Shastri, Yuvraj Singh and Asharuddin, 2-each by Gautam Gambhir, K Srikkanth, Ajay Jadeja, Manoj Prabhakar and VVS Laxman and one-each by Raman Lamba, MS Dhoni, Mohinder Amarnath, Suresh Raina, NS Sidhu, Vinod Kambli, Virender Sehwag, Sanjay Manjrekar, Dilip Vengasarkar, Hemang Badani and Rohit Sharma.
Rohit Sharma’s was the 22nd instance when a batsman scored maiden century in India’s losing cause.
And above all… Vinod Kambli scored his maiden hundred on his 21st birthday and India lost the match against England by 4 wickets at Jaipur on 18 January 1993

*** New Zealand were dismissed all out 81 in this game providing the 23rd occasion of a team dismissed all out for a total less than 100 runs in T20I and second occasion for New Zealand. They have been all out for 99 against Pakistan at The Oval on 13.06.2009.
*** New Zealand’s 81 all out in this game provides the third occasion of a team dismissed all out for a total less than 100 runs against Sri Lanka.
*** RJ Nicol, KD Mills and AJ Mckay scored zeroes in this innings to take the number of zeroes scored by New Zealand batsman in T20I to 24.
*** Nuwan Kulasekhara returned with figures of 3.0-1-4-3 in this game. He became the 14th bowler (and second Sri Lankan) to capture three or more wickets conceding single digit runs in T20I.
*** He bowled a maiden over in this game providing the 81st occasion o of a bowler bowling one or more maiden overs in T20I. He is the fifth Sri Lankan bowler to bowl a maiden over in T20I.

4 LBWs in a T20 game

Four New Zealand batsmen have been victim of leg before wicket during the game against Sri Lanka on 23.05.2010 at Lauderhill ground in the T20 International match. This is something rare in T20I so far.
This was the only second instance when a team lost their four wickets as LBW. AJ Redmond, Ross Taylor, RJ Nicol and KD Mills lost their respective wickets as LBW. Nuwan Kulasekhara has taken two of them.
Sri Lanka involved in both of these instance. Earlier on 12.10.2008 Sri Lankan bowlers have taken four wickets of Canada as LBW at the King City.
Incidentally Sri Lanka holds the record of most LBWs wickets in an ODI innings. They have taken 6 wickets of New Zealand at Auckland on 06.01.2007 and also 6 wickets of Zimbabwe at Harare on 30.11.2008 as LBW.

South Africa’s HA Amla and AB de Villiers scored hundreds against West Indies at North Sound on 22.05.2010 and South Africa won the match by 66 runs. (D/L method)
*** This was the 84th occasion when two batsmen from the same team scored century in the history of ODI.
*** This was the 6th time two batsmen from South Africa scored hundreds in the same ODI match. However South Africa won the five times while lost one match.
*** Incidentally on six occasion the rival team’s two batsmen posted centuries against South Africa and five of them were able to won the match.
*** India beat South Africa by 3 wickets at Cochin on 09.03.2000 when G Kirsten (115) and HH Gibbs (111) scored hundreds.
*** India is on top of the list as there are 21 occasion when TWO Indian batsmen scored centuries in the same ODI. The others are : Australia 10, Afghanistan 1, England 6, Ireland 1, Kenya 1, Netherlands 1, New Zealand 1, Pakistan 18, Scotland 1, South Africa 6, Sri Lanka 8, West Indies 7, Asia Xi 1 and Zimbabwe 1.

This was the only fifth game when a team won the match by only ONE runs. *** The list is: Australia beat New Zealand at Sydney on 15.02.2009, South Africa beat New Zealand at Lord’s on 09.06.2009, England beat South Africa at Johannesburg on 13.11.2009, New Zealand beat Pakistan at Bridgetown on 06.05.2010, and South Africa beat West Indies at North Sound, 20.05.2010.
*** This was the second instance when South Africa won the match by one run in T20I history.
*** New Zealand lost twice by a margin of one run in T20I history.
*** This was the second time when a team won the T20I match won by one run in last 12 days after New Zealand beat Pakistan on 06.05.2010.
*** South Africa won the TWO match series by 2-0. This was the 9th occasion when a team won the T20I bilateral series by 2-0. South Africa did it second time after they beat Australia at home in 2008-09.
*** 239 runs have been scored in this game without witnessing any half century from any side. This is the highest combined total involving South Africa when no half century has been scored.
